what is kinesio taping?

Kinesio taping is an elastic therapeutic taping procedure that can speed up the body's healing mechanisims by removing the barriers that impede them. The tape is similar in weight and thickness to that of human skin, and its elasticity allows it to stretch lengthwise up to 60 percent beyond its resting length.

When stretched and applied to the skin it creates a lifting effect, expanding the narrow space between the skin tissue and adjacent muscle tissue. This space is rich in blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and neural receptors. When enlarged, fluids flow more freely through the blood and lymph vessels, and excess pressure is removed from the neural receptors.

The effects are a reduction in pain, inflammation, and muscle fatigue; increased range of motion; protection against further injury; space, ligament, tendon, and fascial corrections; and ultimately faster healing.

Kinesio Tape can be used to treat practically any condition or injury. Some of the more common conditions include::

• Tendonitis
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
• Bursitis
• Tennis Elbow, Golfer's Elbow, Little League Elbow
• Pateller Malalignment, ACL and MCL Injuries
• Runner's or Cyclist's Knee
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Shin Splints
• Whiplash
• Sprains and Strains
• Headaches
• Contusions, Swelling, and Lymphedema
• Scar Tissue Release
• Frozen Shoulder
• Joint Instability
• Postural Corrections
